Courses & 3D Career Routes

5 Questions

If you work around scaffolding or assist crews on site without erecting frames yourself, start with Safe Scaffolding Erection & Dismantling Awareness. If you want to become a hands-on scaffolder, begin with Scaffolder Course – Level 1, which covers tube-and-fitting fundamentals, base plates, plumb and level, access ladders, working platforms, and safe dismantling under direct supervision.

Tube & Fitting qualifications (Level 1 and Level 2) train you to erect, alter, and dismantle traditional steel tube and coupler structures (independent tied scaffolds, birdcages, towers, loading bays, and cantilevers). System Scaffold qualifications focus on proprietary modular systems (such as Ringlock, Cuplock, or Kwikstage), teaching manufacturer-specific node connections, ledger/transom sequencing, bracing rules, and inspection checkpoints.

ISI structures progression across 4 vertical career towers: (01) Erection & Supervision — from Awareness and Level 1 up to Level 2 and Scaffolding Supervisor Level 1 & 2; (02) Inspection — from Basic and Intermediate Scaffold Inspection to Advanced & Complex Design Inspection; (03) System Scaffolds — modular erector and system inspector routes; and (04) Instructor Routes — qualifying experienced supervisors and inspectors to deliver and assess ISI-accredited training.

Every ISI qualification combines classroom engineering and safety theory with rigorous practical yard assessments on full-scale scaffolding rigs. Candidates must pass both a written knowledge examination (load calculations, statutory compliance, component defect limits) and a live practical build, alteration, or inspection task graded against a standardized ISI rubric by an approved assessor.

ISI courses are delivered globally through our network of ISI-Accredited Training Centres. While ISI sets the syllabus, practical rig requirements, and examination standards, each authorised training centre schedules its own course dates and sets local tuition fees. Contact the ISI Technical Desk via our Contact page to be connected with an accredited centre in your region.

Certificate, ID Card & Verification

4 Questions

Anyone can verify a credential in real time on the official ISI Verification Portal (/verify). Enter the Certificate Serial Number (e.g., ISI-2026-0001), Accredited Centre Code (e.g., ISI-C-001), or Membership ID (e.g., ISI-M-001), or scan the QR code printed on the physical photo ID card. The registry immediately displays the holder’s name, qualification title, issuing centre, issue/expiry dates, and live validity status.

Standard ISI practitioner certificates and photo ID cards are valid for up to 5 years from the date of assessment, subject to the specific qualification scheme rules. Before expiry, cardholders can complete a refresher and re-assessment at any ISI-Accredited Training Centre to renew their active status in the global verification registry.

Your certified status remains safe and verifiable online at /verify even if your physical card is lost. To request a replacement photo ID card, contact the Accredited Training Centre that issued your qualification or submit a replacement request through the ISI Contact console quoting your full name and Certificate Serial Number.

First, confirm that you entered the complete serial number including hyphens (for example, ISI-2026-0001). If a record shows as Expired, the holder’s certification window has lapsed and requires refresher re-assessment. If a printed certificate does not appear in the ISI registry at all, do not accept it for site access and report the document to [email protected] for compliance investigation.

Training Centre Accreditation

3 Questions

Training organisations apply by submitting a formal Centre Accreditation Dossier detailing their corporate governance, instructor CVs, yard layout, and inventory. ISI conducts a 4-stage review: (1) Document & Quality Management Audit, (2) Physical Yard, Rig & Equipment Inspection, (3) Instructor & Assessor Competence Verification, and (4) Issuance of an official ISI Centre Code (ISI-C-XXX) listed on the public verification portal.

Accredited centres must maintain dedicated, weather-safe or properly controlled practical rigging bays with certified tube, couplers, boards, base plates, and proprietary system components sufficient for full-height multi-lift builds. Facilities must also provide classrooms for blueprint reading, calibrated torque and inspection tools, certified personal fall-arrest equipment (PFAS), and a documented work-at-height rescue plan.

Under the ISI Impartiality Statement and Certification Policy, the assessor grading a candidate’s practical and written examination must act independently of commercial pressures and may not have a conflict of interest in the candidate’s pass/fail outcome. All assessment records are logged digitally and subject to periodic and unannounced quality assurance audits by ISI technical verifiers.

ISI Membership & Global Chapters

4 Questions

ISI offers three membership grades: (1) Individual Membership ($50 USD / year) for qualified scaffolders, supervisors, inspectors, and safety engineers; (2) Corporate Membership ($500 USD / year) for scaffolding contractors, training providers, and construction or industrial firms; and (3) Technical Membership (by committee invitation) for senior structural engineers and standards authors contributing to ISI technical working groups.

You can submit your application directly through the online Membership Application Portal (/membership-application). Select your membership grade, provide your professional or corporate details, and submit the form. The ISI Membership Committee reviews applications within 5 business days and issues your official Membership Certificate and verifiable Member ID (ISI-M-XXX).

ISI operates 9 Regional Chapters supporting members and accredited centres worldwide: Europe, Middle East & North Africa (MENA), Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), North America, Latin America, Sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, East & Southeast Asia, and Oceania. Members receive regional technical alerts, guidance notes, and invitations to chapter working groups.

In accordance with the ISI Complaints and Appeals Policy (/complaints-and-appeals), any candidate or accredited centre may lodge a formal appeal within 30 calendar days of an assessment or accreditation decision. Appeals are reviewed by an independent panel that had no involvement in the original decision, and a written determination is issued within 21 business days.
